Introducing Juvéderm Volbella for Lip Augmentation

Juvéderm Volbella has arrived and it is exceeding everyone’s expectations. Juvéderm Volbella XC has been FDA approved for the use in lip augmentation, the correction of perioral rhytids (smoker’s lines, or lines around the mouth), and smoothing out the lips in adults over the age of 21. It was first approved in Europe in 2011 and is now available in over 70 countries, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive.

Volbella is a smooth gel volbella for lip augmentation blended using a variety of different molecular weights of hyaluronic  acid (HA). It has a lower concentration of HA (15mg/mL), which allows for more horizontal spread than lift, which is perfect for smoothing out lines around and in the lip. It should not be used on patients looking for volume or plumpness of the lips.

The mix of hyaluronic acid and the Vycross Technology of this product helps the the body attract and retain moisture to the treated area over time, so results of the treatment can last up to one year. Previous fillers lasted up to 6 months before the body started breaking them down. It is recommended to receive a Volbella treatment yearly.

Volbella also contains Lidocaine, which makes the treatment process that much more comfortable for the patient. The lightweight gel also injects smoothly and rather painlessly   and should be injected using an ultra fine needle by your healthcare professional. There is little to no downtime for this injection and minimal side effects.

Vycross Technology

Allergan’s innovative Vycross technology, which yields smooth products that have been engineered to address volume loss, lip fullness, or perioral rhytids, is used to form Volbella. The Vycross technology offers more efficient crosslinking and blends different molecular weights of HA, which contributes to the lasting effects of the product. The HA in these products is also made to mimic the HA that is already in our bodies.

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend both a Botulinum Toxin Type A training course and an actual “day in the office” with Jill Jones, RN,CPSN at the Atlanta Training Center. This was an invaluable learning experience and helped me to become a more confident Botulinum Toxin Type A injector and ultimately, grow my cosmetic practice. AAI instructors keep abreast of all the latest techniques and cover both the basics and advanced information on Botulinum Toxin Type A in their course, which would benefit both new and experienced injectors. I would highly recommend attending aesthetic instructional course as well as shadowing at the Atlanta Training Center.they are truly cosmetic artists!
